Amazônia
Home to a treasure trove of biodiversity and ecological wealth, is changing. Its environment is under growing threat, as endless forests give to pastures, to soy fields, and to cities. How Amazonia changes over the coming years will have implications not only for countries in Latin America, but for the global community. A number of MSU faculty are concerned about what the future holds for this critical region, and have developed their research agendas accordingly. This webpage will introduce you to their work, and also give you an Amazonian field experience. Get to know this incredible part of the world, and help us conserve it for future generations of world citizens. This webpage was constructed with support from NASA project (NNG06GD96A) "Spatially Explicit Land Cover Econometrics and Integration with Climate Prediction: Scenarios of Future Landscapes and Land-Climate Interactions", NSF project (BCS-0620384) "Collaborative Research: Globalization, Deforestation, and the Livestock Sector in the Brazilian Amazon", and NSF project (BCS-0552834) "Creating soil: A pilot study of Amazonian Dark Earth (ADE) formation in Amazonian homegardens." The Department of Geography also provided resources.
