• Environment and Development: people-environment interaction - relationship between land use, environment, climate change and socio-economic systems in rural areas, with particular reference to arid and semi-arid lands.
• Conflict over resources in semi-arid areas of Africa.
• Information Systems for Decision Support in Africa.
• Food security in rural Africa.
• Social and economic aspects of drought and desertification.
