GISCI Masters
The Master of Science degree is a Plan B (non-thesis) degree
that emphasizes applications of analytical techniques in the
field of geography. Students are trained in advanced technologies
such as remote sensing, geographic information systems, cartography,
and spatial analysis. The degree is aimed toward professionals
who want to acquire expertise in research techniques, but
who may not necessarily wish to eventually pursue a PhD. This
program is appropriate for persons with interest, but not
necessarily strong training, in the geographical sciences.
The student must complete a total of 30 credits distributed
as follows:
CREDITS
1. All of the following courses: (14 credits)
- GEO 425 Geographic Information Systems: (4 credits)
- GEO 801 Issues in Geographic Information Science: (3 credits)
- GEO 874 Seminar in Geographic Information Science:(3 credits)
- GEO 827 Digital Image Processing and Analysis: (4 credits)
2. At least one 400-level or higher course in cartography:
(3-4 credits)
3. At least one 400-level or higher course in quantitative
or qualitative methods: (4 credits)
4. Related coursework in geography and other disciplines:
(8-9 credits)
