Andrew Bootsma Mr. Bootsma is a MSc graduate (1972) of the Agrometeorology program at the University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada. From 1971 to 1982, he was employed as an agricultural climatologist for the Department of Agriculture and Forestry in the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada, where he supervised the development of a research and extension program in agroclimatology. Since 1982, he has conducted research in agroclimatology with the Research Branch of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), in Ottawa, Ontario. He is presently with the Eastern Cereal and Oilseed Research Centre of the Research Branch in Ottawa. Mr. Bootsma's work has focussed on analysing and interpreting climatic information for use in agricultural management decisions and for assessing crop production potential in Canada. Activities have included assessments of frost risk at the farm level, evaluating heat units available for corn and soybean production, forecasting potato late blight and spray scheduling, estimating crop yields and soil moisture conditions using models and estimating optimum dates of seeding of winter wheat using climatic data. In recent years, he has been involved in a number of research projects to assess potential impacts of climate change on crop production in eastern Canada. Mr. Bootsma has been the author or co-author of more than 110 research and miscellaneous publications. |
